A Handful of Hints for Happy Hunting (Rules, Guidelines & Tips)

So, a hunt day has been announced, and you're getting ready to take part.
But before you do, there are a few things you should consider before heading out, and while on the trail of that elusive Hunt Coin.

1 » Follow @hunt_clues on Twitter.
You can't win if you don't know where the coin is! The Hunt's Twitter feed is the only place where you will receive the clues leading you to the coin. You can read the feed right here on the blog (it's on the right-hand side of the page if you haven't noticed), or if you have a twitter account, make sure you click that "Follow" button!

2 » Enlist some friends.
Unless you're one of those independent types, getting some friends to help you solve clues is always an advantage, especially if you're stuck. If your friends can't make it outside on the day, they can always help from home. Bonus points for group names and costumes! We'd love to get some photos!

3 » Dress for the weather.
Although attempts will be made to hold hunt days during sunny weather, the nature of announcing events in future can result in the weather plotting against us. Check the weather before you leave, because the hunt days could take place during rain or shine! Comfortable shoes are recommended for the potentially large amount of walking/running you'll be doing.

4 » Follow common sense.
Hunters are expected to follow and abide by all local and national laws while taking part. If you think a clue is instructing you to do something illegal, you might have understood it incorrectly.

5 » Don't over-think.
The clues are not designed to be too complex. If you feel that your explanation for the solution to a clue is taking too long to recite, take a step back and rethink.
All hunt clues will contain some version of two right-hand arrows (») as part of its message; this is so you can identify an official clue from a random piece of paper in a rubbish bin.
Initially, the clues will refer to a wider area, but will slowly become more refined with their location. This is a bit hard to explain, so it's best to see it in action on the day.

6 » Be a good sport.
To ensure an enjoyable experience for fellow hunters, please refrain from spoiling, destroying or modifying clues. If you encounter a clue in public (remember, it includes the official "»" symbol), please leave it intact so fellow hunters can follow it. Failure to abide by this rule can result in disqualification.

7 » Don't get frustrated.
Most importantly, The Hunt is intended to be a fun experience. No-one likes losing, but unfortunately that's a side-effect of holding a treasure hunt. Please remember, its only a game, not a failed peace treaty.

8 » Stay fit.
As The Hunt is a predominantly outdoor experience, remember to apply sunblock if it's super sunny, and keep some water handy. If you're running around, we don't want you passing out on us!

9 » Find that coin!
The first participating person or group to discover and travel to the coin's location in person will be determined the winner(s). Nothing too complex about that, that's how treasure hunts typically work.

If you have a suggestion for a guideline that we've missed, leave a comment below or a message on Twitter. This project is still in its beginning stages so its rules and guidelines will always be evolving.

See you out there!
